I remember the Fifties. It was a golden age. If you were a white male. If you were a woman, you could be a mommy, a nurse, a secretary, a teacher or a telephone operator. You could kill a black man or rape a white woman with complete impunity over much of the country. And safe? Check out a guy named Charlie Starkweather. Now there’s someone to give kids nightmares.
The Fifties weren’t a Golden Age, they were a cesspool. You didn’t hear about sexual assault and child molestation much because victims knew all too well what would happen if they spoke out.
I met a woman once who commanded the Space Shuttle and another who directed an all-woman team that drove a Mars Rover. I like my microwave and my Internet and cars that routinely get over 100,000 miles. Don’t give me any crap about the good old days. The good old days are right now.
Yes, and when there were towns they were separate from each other by miles of corn fields, barns and lonely farmhouses. Now they are all joined by car lots and stores, ad nauseum.

Shut him down fast, Roz, or you’ll be stuck hearing stories about walking 2 miles in the snow to return a penny.
