Hiccups are caused by contrary signals sent to the diaphragm that is part of your breathing apparatus. It was once part of the system of amphibians. It is working like it did in the prehistoric past.

Monty is such an educational strip! I had to go to Wikipedia to find “synchronous diaphragmatic flutter” (SDF) as a term for Singultus or hiccup.
Hey, Monty! Try drinking a lot of water directly from the tap. Might not cure your hiccups, but it will distract you….
