" Dad, you forgot to remind me we were going to have a test ! ! "

“But Calvin, you forgot to remind me when I forgot to remind you.”

Calvin looks ready to go into his Spaceman Spiff alternate reality mode at any moment.

When it comes to tests, Calvin has Korsakoff’s disease.

When I first saw the strip, I thought Cal had a dream.

Plus he has some kind of paralysis when it comes to tests

He’s not invested in the whole school schtick so all the minutiae that goes with it is lost on him. If he bought into school Spaceman Spiff would not exist and we would be all the poorer for it.

My daddy hated the " I forgot" excuse. Which is probably one reason I often remembered to use it.

He’s just showing you how he forgot.

Calvin answered both your questions in the first two frames. Move on Dad.

I really hate this storyline. Calvin gets along with his dad worse than he does with his mom. An example:

When he was in grade school, my son was asked by his teacher where his homework was. He responded, “I didn’t do it.” At the teacher’s conference she told us that she was prepared for any kind of excuse. His honest response left her flabbergasted. Her only comeback was, “Well then, do it!”

“I forgot”

Lamest excuse ever.

“I forgot” REALLY means “I couldn’t be bothered”

I do think Calvin’s dad had the wrong response in panel 3. The answer should be perfectly obvious: Not every six-year-old gives a high mental priority to study. I flaked way too much at his age, and my dad yelling “How could you possibly forget?!” would not have helped in the least.

And the Millennial was born

Maybe it would’ve been a little more believable if Calvin deliberately fell out of his chair and faked banging his head hard on something, and then start the “Where am I? Who am I?” schtick.

I would occasionally forget about stuff like that, but I was more likely to just not make an effort.
