The song was written about 1946 by Will Eisner (lyrics) and Bill Harr (melody) and published in sheet music form. Eisner said in an interview that he didn’t think anybody ever played it. You can read his description of how it came about in an excerpt from Will Eisner: Conversations here: http://tinyurl.com/h55yj7y
Later, Denis Kitchen arranged to have it recorded and published a picture disk of it. He talks about it in about the last screenful of an interview transcription, here: http://www.ttbook.org/book/transcript/transcript-denis-kitchen-oddly-compelling-art
Forget Tracy not liking Bonnie’s latest infatuation. What happens when ELLEN DOLAN gets word, or drops by to visit her Father? Could we see a girl fight?
The Siam is yet another great location in Tracy’s city. Like the Allerton Hotel’s Tip Top Tap (later the Cloud Room and currently the Renaissance Ballroom), the Siam has a restaurant on top floor: The Flying Carpet. We were ushered in for the celebration of Annie’s rescue on Oct. 12, 2014. The band played “Annie,” from Townshend/Lane’s Rough Mix album. Perenelle Flammel has quite the sumptuous suite, with high ceilings and a wall of windows. Down in the lobby, Warbucks and Diet have ‘em and smoke ‘em. The bellboy keeps a passive face, yet is anxious to learn which high-roller is the bigger tipper. We know the identity of three of the five bidders. Logical speculation suggests Hotshot Charlie may have piloted the Dragon Lady to Tracyville. Darling O’Shea, a minor character in the Spirit, is “the richest and most spoiled child in the world.” Does Darling get what darling wants? The Ace of Spades has the dough ray me, yet, like Bribery, may not wish to make a public spectacle of himself. I’m intrigued. More of the good stuff from Team Tracy.
Thanks to Vista Bill, Bob Oscar, Neil Wick (thanks for the song info), 22ph, Night-Gaunt49, Doc1947G, JPuzzleWhiz and Chris Sherlock for the kind words. Very much appreciated!
So today’s strip supports my theory that the Spirit is being played as a decade or two younger (and a little more light-hearted and less mature) than Tracy. Although the Spirit has been around since 1940, his career has basically been those 12 years in the newspaper comics, while Tracy has been around continuously for over 85 years. If Tracy and Spirit had somehow crossed over in the last few years of the latter’s comic (1949-52), a Sammy of the same age as now would have been meeting a teenage Junior instead of his almost-teen daughter. Spirit has been frozen in time since then, while Tracy and his supporting cast have gradually aged.
So this is confirmed to be Bonnie Braids? Makes sense, since she’s being called “Miss Tracy” here. However, I find myself wondering — whatever happened to Binnie Viller? Dick Tracy promised the dying Stooge Viller that he would take care of his daughter, Binnie. After that storyline ended, we never heard about Binnie ever again…
OK. VB and Neil Wick are present. Where are the other members of the BMBG team? Namely Gweedo and JPuzzleWhiz.
Hi, Bill !Since Saturday afternoon I have been at the home of poster Whisplicka and husband Ted up here in Michigan. We were up past midnight talking up a storm. Went on some store runs and a little tour of the area today. Gray and in the low 40s. Not bad for this area. Caught fog in Iowa and western Illinois and some hard rain that didn’t last for long. Many periods of drizzle and mist. Catching up comics for the Monday edition.
Why does Bonnie strike me as some kinda bubble head ? Was she always that way ?
The Nexus vid with Spaceghost was pretty neat. Guess he decided to shuck that show host gig for some real action !

Auction at Hotel Siam
Five bidders allowed in
Warbucks, Smith and Carrion
His bird peckish and thin.
Doubleup, a whip in hand
Charged with security
Tracy shall enforce the law
No criminal shall flee.
Perenelle doth prefer vintage
She makes a proposition
Tracy keeps his sacred vows
No deceitful disposition.
Ramon is here to serve the guests
Hors d’oeuvres and fresh libations
Flammel sells mythology
Immortal expectations.
Am has met her many times
First at her funeral
Am has witnessed multitudes
His sojourns never dull.

The Spirit seems to be a magnet for the ladies. Dick Tracy won’t be happy.

Daughters do tend to fall for men who remind them of their fathers.
This wouldn’t even be the first time for Bonnie.

Don’t trust the song, Bonnie. The Spirit has plenty of honeys to hug.

Is it just me, or do the Spirit and Blackjack seem like a “separated at birth” scenario?

Bonnie has now been placed at the age she last was in 1978 about 16. In a few years she’ll be pushed back again to 5. It’s happened twice already.
