I had a California highway patrol car run into the back of my car at a signal light one time. Not a lot of damage but the officer was so embarrassed I felt bad for him. It apparently earned him weeks of paperwork to fill out. My job was convincing my insurance agent that it really was a CHP who tail-ended me!
That’s one reason people driving emergency vehicles with lights and sirens don’t roar through intersections. There might be another emergency vehicle approaching the same intersection. It could be that both vehicles are responding to the same emergency.
(Another reason is there might be a confused driver approaching that intersection. “Do I hear a siren? Where is it coming from? Is it behind me?”)
