I bet Mom and Dad are happy to see Calvin caring about stuff other than Hobbes.

Nothing stupid about. Things live they die and go back into the ecology. Except for us. We humans do what we can to forstall the worm and decay and keeping our bounty from the earth itself. Giving back.

You are right Calvin, it’s a stupid world. No rhyme or reason to it. Live, love, die. You only do it once so make the best of it my friend and never stop learning.

Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow,Creeps in this petty pace from day to dayTo the last syllable of recorded time,And all our yesterdays have lighted foolsThe way to dusty death. Out, out, brief candle!Life’s but a walking shadow, a poor playerThat struts and frets his hour upon the stageAnd then is heard no more. It is a taleTold by an idiot, full of sound and fury,Signifying nothing. —William Shakespeare

Yeah, Calvin, it’s a stupid world.

Be glad you were there to love him at the end. No one should die unmourned.

You’re growing up, Calvin. You know what it is to love; you know what it is to mourn.

Dad buried the racoon. That was very sensitive of him. My Mom threw my beloved cat in the trash after it died.

I often consider that if we were to do our best to design a training program to turn helpless infants into sturdy adults we could not do better than the world around us. This is one of the lessons, I guess.

My grandfather passed away last night. So it’s perfect timing for this story arc to be running.I love Hobbes’s sad face in the third panel.

Death is not the greatest loss in life. The greatest loss is what dies inside us while we live. Norman Cousins

The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time. Mark Twain

Even death is not to be feared by one who has lived wisely. Buddha

For life and death are one, even as the river and the sea are one. Khalil Gibran

The life of the dead is placed in the memory of the living. Marcus Tullius Cicero

I couldn’t agree more. The world is indeed stupid.

Which is why I hope I never live to be 100.
