Trudeau, Alex better not be in this just to get a story

I find it interesting to think about how these two are the same age, yet the incredibly different trajectories life has launched them upon already!
prasrinivara over 15 years ago
Yes, they complement each other well; Toggle’s words have to catch up to his thoughts, precisely reversal of Alex.

It’s an interesting statement that Toggle can get blown up for his country yet can’t legally have a beer. Yet in some states, near-beer is just as illegal for “minors” to drink as is “regular” beer. Is there a police officer in this story’s future?
DBjorn over 15 years ago
Actually – I think he can’t drink because of the medications he’s on. alcohol and pain killers are a bad combo!
prasrinivara over 15 years ago
Nemesys, he can drink beer–so long as it’s “ginger” or “root”!
(some British novels do refer to ginger ale as “ginger beer”)

Awwwww. This is exactly the kind of story line that sends a portion of the readership gushing. Fairly safe for GT.
turoc15 over 15 years ago
personally,i think gushing and corny are good in moderation.

Ah, I think back to the many pleasant memories of sitting in a car, at night, with a lovely young lady. Alive with possibilities.

Cool, Alex shows some style!

Ginger beer is similar to ginger ale, but typically has a cloudier appearance, a stronger ginger flavor, less carbonation, and less sweetness.

Correction accepted Sternvogel.

GBT, you are a master of nuance. As prasrinivara noted, you said so much with so few words in the last panel!

It’s not the meds or his age that restrict Toggle’s alcohol intake, it the nature of his injury. Any disruption of circulation after a traumatic cranial injury is contraindicated. Eventually he should be able to drink but he has a ways to go. And, from an old Army Medic- awwwww…

Sigh… Never have I seen two cute noses made for each other more than these two…

This is SO ‘full circle’ on so many levels. When you think back to the first ever Doonsbury comic, Mike and BD crashing into each other as roommates was a sublime ‘chalk and cheese’ moment.
Fast forward the years and we have the same ideologies alive and well in Toggle and Alex. And see how beautifully they’ve come together?
GBT, you iz the MAN! :))

Actually, I believe they are slightly different concoctions (as are beer and ale), as I’ve seen the same company make both. I’d personally take either over that nasty neer-beer stuff.

This story line shows how GT has mellowed and deepened, BD was a caricature in the seventies; Trudeau loved Mike and the heads and the hippies. Now he loves all of them, vets, spooks, nerds, geeks, politicos. I grew up with this strip, I am different , because of time, experience and partially this strip. Thanks GT!What a long, strange trip it’s been!
