If we’re conducting a census, I also have suffered. And not just with my garbage. There’s the open purse, the bag of groceries, the makeup bag…

If I thought my bags were going to tip over I always took them a couple of doors down. If challenged “Nope not my bags”

This is why I always turn my bags upside down. Let ’em tip.

Not just trash bags, almost any bag I put down falls down and I have to reverse it to a support.

I find you have to kick the contents into submission, then they will not tip.

What would happen if you took a cat, tied a piece of toast, butter side up on its back and dropped it?

I know! Sometimes I just pop it on the recycling bin, that helps prevent the paper and plastic from blowing around.

Around here the crows descend, pick holes in the bags, and pull all kinds of stuff out onto the driveway.

I tie a knot in the top of my garbage bag. That way, if it tips, the contents stay in. Raccoons, of course, add a whole different slant to the story.

Living in the city/near-burbs, it’s the lawn debris/leaf bags that are the worst; if they don’t tip over, inevitably a stick in them pokes a hole and causes a rip in the bag. Same result; a mess.

Don’t over fill, and tie them well and it won’t matter.

Before trash bags, Mom used newspaper to line the trash bin. Then dumped it into the trash can. Once every week, Dad hosed out the trash can, and Mom hosed out the trash can. No plastic bags used. The paper bags were saved to make book covers at school time, and for wrapping packages, and storing things in. Isn’t history fun?

Double bag it, then it won’t matter if it tips over.

I’m not mad, I tell you… It’s just bottle recycling, you see. I have it all worked out, you see. I can get seven 2L bottles in one grocery bag, no more, no less. I have worked it out with geometric logic, you see. Yet every time I get six bottles in the bag it falls on the floor. Every time! The bottles all fall out. I must start over! Again, the bag falls, I must start over! Every time! You see I’m not mad — only a sane person would know how many bottles have to go in a grocery bag…

For me, it’s grocery bags in the car. The slightest turn or brake, they want to tip over and dump the groceries on the floor (or between the seat the door). Now I use the plastic handles to tie all the bags shut!
