I bet Dad’s yelling causes more of an irritation to the other diners than Calvin’s silliness. When we were small and my Dad worked shift work, it was always Mom’s ‘telling’ us to be quiet that woke him up, not our ‘noisiness’.
The wonderful thing about comics is that they are totally out of reality and the characters can do as they wish. No analysis is required and we can laugh at human foibles.
@furienna you’d love japan – parents allow unruly kids to do whatever they please in restaurants and other public places. pandemonium rules and if you don’t like it you can lump it…

Is dad assuming that Calvin knows how a civilized human being acts?

In my world, “bugs” are lobsters and a nice dry white wine is best.

Bats aren’t Marvel. They are D.C.

I like the look of the guy’s face in the last panel in the bottom right corner.

That’s why we are called adult, and mature, because we know better and we are here to teach them to be mature

I love these types of C&H strips… where you don’t know what you are going to get until the last panel, a hidden lead-up, per se.

I used to try doing this, but I could never hit my mouth.

Bats can detect a mosquito in flight, but when they got in my house, they couldn’t detect a wide-open doorway to the outside.

This reminds me of the time Calvin had to do a paper about bats and didn’t bother to do any research. He called them a type of bug.

I saw a baby bat on the TV (Not “on top” of the TV you understand)
It was lovely! Bright eyes and a cute little face. It was being fed milk.

Funny how nearly all the animals Calvin imagines look realistic.

At least in this timeframe, Calvin doesn’t think that bats are bugs. :P

Why is Calvin wearing a t-shirt to a fancy restaurant?
