[These lines, not consecutive, are from “For I Will Consider My Cat Jeoffry” (Excerpt, “Jubilate Agno”) – Poem by Christopher Smart.] / For I will consider my Cat Jeoffry. / For he is the servant of the Living God duly and daily serving him. / For at the first glance of the glory of God in the East he worships in his way. / For in his morning orisons he loves the sun and the sun loves him. / For he purrs in thankfulness, when God tells him he’s a good Cat.
Georgia has done something that will assure her success, I think—she has created a visual style that exudes cuteness, shows her love of cats, and is original. Lupin’s expression and his paws in the first panel, adorable. I love the little stories too.
During the fall and winter months, our kitties follow the sunspots from the back slider, to the east guest room bedroom window to the front west facing door.
Robin Wood – of the wonderfully illustrated books and cards, especially from Llewellyn publishing – once said that cats lay in sunbeams making “cat gravity”; converting solar energy into a form that is released when they sit on our laps and make us unable to get up (or stay conscious), a condition known as COL (cat-on-lap) or in its junior form, KOL.
What a great strip. Three panels of Elvis smiling, including an adorable half smile. Happy Lupin and zoned out Puck. Also great and informative comments from readers. I learned about Robin Wood’s book “Theory of cat gravity” and about Christopher Smart’s poem “For I will consider my cat Jeoffry.” Georgia’s work and wonderful commenters. Too bad there is only an option for “Like.” I would have picked Like squared.

Is Elvis sitting on Puck, laying on Puck, or has the bottom half of Elvis not been drawn in?

Ah yes, the highly prized sunbeam ritual. My current home gets a lot of sun but the cats still love to curl up in the beam when it comes in a window

On 9 Chickweed Lane it was pointed out that patches of sunlight spontaneously generate cats.

Our big male likes the top of the dryer. It’s his personal sauna, fueled by human servants who feed damp pieces of cloth into it.

I hope it’s a nice, big sunspot…so the boys don’t have to keep getting up and relocating to follow it as it moves across the floor :)
