Ulysses is heavy reading for a 5th grader. Also not too bad as a start on a weight lifting program.

My choice would have been “Catch 22”. It’s never too soon to learn that the majority of “authority figures” are self-interested incompetents, and it’s a funnier book than “Catcher In The Rye”…

I agree with fritzoid. Aside from getting to read obscenities as part of a high school reading assignment, I got nothing out of “Catcher in The Rye.” “Catch 22” and “Slaughterhouse 5” were two I enjoyed, reading them on my own. After the movie came out, I reread Kurt Vonnegut’s book and had a better understanding.
