The days are getting shorter? Where do they live?

Summer solstice is the longest day. After the summer solstice, the days get shorter. Very sad it is, too.

I think she is making a jab about Arlo going to bed early since chickens get up early, they must go to bed early. Perhaps she is a little frustrated at his going to sleep early?

Chickens go to bed when it gets dark. Sounds like Arlo goes to bed earl;y no matter the daylight. Janis is just jabbing at him that in a while, it’ll be dark when Arlo goes to bed, and hence, the chickens.

@LGMARGOLIN: Unless you are an orthodox Jewish person. An hour in halacha is calculated by taking the total time of daylight of a particular day, from sunrise until sunset, and dividing it into 12 equal parts. These a ‘proportional hours’ and will vary with the season. If the sun rises at 5 am and sets at 7:30 pm, an hour will be 72.5 minutes long.

I’m glad they are getting shorter. It’s still light at 8:30 pm.

When I was in Alaska, near the Beaufort Sea in mid-June, the sun did a circle in the sky and never set. Weirdest thing I’ve ever experienced other than a total solar eclipse.
