Some devs have gotten it right by not making you pay for it, they just keep poking you to buy things for the game in game.

For those who’ve never played a MMORPG, the idea is that a lot of extremely “hooked” players only want to play certain parts of the game – usually very high level content, and they feel very competitive with other players. They need very high-end “gear” to be able to play with the highest level players, which takes a lot of in-game gold. They often don’t have to patience to spend the hours and hours “grinding” content they consider boring and tedious, to get the in-game money for what they want. Thus, they are willing to spend their real money to pay some other player somewhere to do the tedious grinding for them. Or, many gaming companies are now going to the so-called “free to play” business model (It’s actually the opposite of that), where players can just directly buy the in-game gear they want with real money.

Micro-transactions are becoming more & more popular as a business model in many games…you want the good stuff? Pay and you can have it instantly!

What? And miss the fun of traveling around to all the zones and doing “Camp Checks”. Sitting there waiting for the MoB to spawn and when it does someone “KS’s” you. All the Chinese farmers running through a zone with their “bots” in tow killing everything in sight. Yeah, get me to the high end area asap where the real game starts.
