“I didn’t mean to hold hands, officer — it just happened. I don’t know how her hand got in my hand. I didn’t put it there. Not me. I swear I am innocent. Don’t put me in jail! I have a family that needs me!! I have a pet dog to feed. I am too young for prison life!!"

If this was set before 1988, this must be how Keith Whitley got the inspiration to the song “When You Say Nothing At All” (which I had always thought was done by Alison Krauss in 1995). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HfVbyKRD5pg

They don’t let campers wander off like this. I wonder if Lynn ever went to a camp? This is more likely to happen at a family camping where Mike meets Martha and Elly and John would let him walk along the river with Martha. The camp find this kind of activity a liability so they keep campers on the premises. Many are even fenced.

Enjoy the feeling, Michael, it happens rarely in real life.

    Hand holding . . . kissing . . . heavy petting . . . “all the way”. Slippery slope!

I’d cue in Johnny Mathis singing “Wonderful, Wonderful” but the “X-Files” ruined that song forever for me in the episode “Home”. Lol!

I attended summer camp back in the 1950’s when most “overnight” camps ( like prep schools ) were not co-ed.

I did work as a riflery instructor at coed day camp for poor little rich kids, when I was in high school and college. We had two summer sessions that included one overnight in each session. The kids were closely supervised – it was the counsellors that should have been !

Parenthetically, the camp was owned by large catering company, that leased it out nights and weekends for corporate outings. I made much more money as a lifeguard for those functions in one week, than I did at the camp for an entire month !

I’ve always been a “love the one you’re with” kind of girl.

The only co-ed part of our summer camp was the staff. It was single-gender camping only otherwise. The camp used the alternate week method. Girls one week, boys the next, rinse and repeat.

Some writers have missed the point, dwelling on camp rules, and other distractions. As Cosburn wrote, it’s a comic strip. Michael tells us, little things like (innocently!) holding hands can communicate more than words.I’m now 83. When I was a painfully shy teenager I went on a double date to an amusement park. It was the first one with the girl in question. As we were walking, my friend whispered in my ear, “Hold her hand!” I did and we had a pleasant time.

I used to work at a summer camp. The campground had an open field surrounded by thick woods that employees and campers alike called “the Muck Muck Field.” Everyone knew what “muck muck” meant.
