Chipper is a good man.

Elam’s pledge to cover the expenses may indicate that he’s a rich old miser, with tons of cash stashed away some place.

Jim missed a chance for humor in today’s strip. He could have had Rufus respond to Elam’s Panel 1 comment by saying “Why should I call my doctor friend ‘Rufus’? That’s my name!”

But how’s Rufus going to call him? I didn’t see a phone in the place, and I don’t recall that he carries a cell phone.

How are they going to call Chipper when nobody around has a phone?

Rufus must be about as old as Walt, but he doesn’t look it. He and Joel are some kind of wizards.

Of course Rufus stalls and wastes time yammering on and on. Poor Elam. He’s willing to foot the bill, but Rufus is not helping. Without Joel to guide him, Rufus is… well… a doofus.
