It’s funny- we’re pretty far in now, and every once in a while Hobbes looks a bit more like his “old self”, before Watterson really perfected him. I think it’s the bigger nose.
It looks like Calvin is jumping the rope as it comes at him from behind… The rope is drawn in a way that it looks like he is swinging the rope over his head from the front and that it is hitting the floor behind him as he jumps…pretty cool.
“Ho-ho and ha-hah, eh? I’ll ho-ho and ha-hah you – with my trusty quarterstaff! (Actually, it’s a buck-and-a-quarter quarterstaff, but I’m not telling him. ) – Robin Hood Daffy, 1958 dir. Chuck Jones
Maybe it’s just me but I don’t see the humor in cruelty. Or, maybe it’s because I spend so much time teaching my boys about minimizing risk and protecting them from their own poor judgement.

Calvin is quite a good jumper! In my recollection from my childhood (early 60’s), the few boys who even ATTEMPTED to jump rope, SUCKED. LOL

The words describing the sound effects of the skipping is more hilarious! In my opinion.
