Thank you Elly! Elly is teaching wives/mothers two important lessons:

1. You can’t get your children to respect your wishes if you can’t get your husband to respect your wishes.

2. If you blow your stack over trivial things like a bowl and a spoon, your children will not know when you have a real problem to be discussed.

The old dad is breaking the rules too which is the humorous jab. The look on Ellie’s face is to die for.

Naturally! You hollered at the wrong people Elly. Your jackarse of a husband is the guilty one, and he DOES think of you as nothing more than someone to pick up after him. I’d pick up the bowl and go crown him with it!

Which number is higher, the national debt or Elly’s blood pressure?

I remember, many years ago, a famous Houston lawyer said; one his most important early lessons; he learned; was NEVER ASK A QUESTION THAT YOU DON’T ALREADY KNOW THE ANSWER TO.

I hate using a good rant on the wrong person!

Occasionally, I would use the strip for a personal rant. I got my point across to my family in a way that was, perhaps, more palatable than the real thing. Not to say that I didn’t rant about this for real. I did. The best part of putting real feelings out there…was the response I got from readers who said how true it was. Some said they had given this strip to the guilty parties to show their frustration. I had put their and my feelings in print. Somehow, seeing a situation on the comics page legitimized it. When a good rant and rave goes south on you, all you can do is utter those immortal words, of the late, great Emily Latella … " Nevermind ! "

If Elly screamed bloody murder over one bowl lying about, what would have happened when John and Phil nearly got killed when they were stranded in the wilderness? Would Elly’s head have exploded?
