If you believe in curses, then the statute of limitations on path crossing for a black cat is apparently about 47 years. On September 9, 1969 the Cubs were playing the Mets at Shea stadium when a black cat walked in front of the Cubs dugout. The Cubs, who’d been in first place in the NL East most of the summer, lost the game and fell into into second place behind the Mets the next day. The Mets eventually won the World Series that year, but it took the Cubs another 47 years to win one.
