Yeah, he’s so in charge that he’s had to live on the streets, fake his own death and otherwise cower in the shadows. Several more days of this witty repartee before the next shocking story twist. I’m still betting on Sue Doko to supply it, preferably by shooting him before she says anything. Action would be a real twist here.
Well, here we are again
And everything is just the same
Moving as it is ever so slow
Telling us things we already know
Excitement and mystery have long since died
Not that Locher has ever really tried
We no longer care for its inevitable fate
Because it has sunk to such a sorry state.
I can’t blame Thick for keeping his eyes closed, not after what this strip did to my glasses yesterday. But he’s gonna wet his pants and run if he ever sees that gun in D’oggydoo’s hand.
No way hes going to shoot Dick. Wonder how hell get out of this one. Will D-Cubed take the shot and miss at point blank range? At this point I dont think anything can surprise me in this strip.
What you fail to understand, Rightwingmoron, is that this “winning hand” remark was a respectful and loving homage to the classic, Golden Age that was Dick Tracy’s 2009 era, when Tracy fans thrilled and chilled to the endless plot twists in the One-Eyed Jack/King of Clubs story arc!
Bless Mr. Locher for having so much respect for that classic material and so cleverly paying tribute to himself.
Flight Suit, whatever unexpected twists Locher supplies next, I’m sure they’ll make a truly fitting cap to his career. People will remember Locher’s creative presence for as long as Dick Tracy is remembered.
1) It slays me how Brozman shows people holding guns as in panel 1. EPIC FAIL.
2) Is that a double-action automatic? The hammer is down instead of back, which would imply that it was, but Sunday’s strip showed Mrs. 3D holding what is clearly a single-action automatic. Macy should know this (45 years ago, Macy carried a .357 Magnum revolver) EPIC FAIL.
3) As a change of pace, Locher had the other 4 undercover agents who were in the continuity last week scream like little girls and run away, instead of Macy. EPIC FAIL.
There’s no way to outguess the Locher Mess Monster. We’re limited by things like reality, and knowledge, and imagination, and logic. Unimpeded by such matters, Locher is free to use his endless supply of ignorance and non-talent. Tomorrow Locher may have D’oggydoo toss aside his weapon and declare that he’s on a mission from God.
Locher draws like a six-year-old. Okay, technically he can do a good job with faces, when he puts his mind to it. Otherwise he has no clue about perspective, proportion or surroundings. He decides that the important items in a scene are an angry man and his gun, so he slaps them together without regard for actual appearance. Thick has to reason with Mr. and Mrs. D’imwit? Then why bother showing the Federal agents? Sketch in something that suggests a building or a sidewalk and that’s good enough for him.
What happened to all of the federal agents who were chasing 3D…with their guns drawn??? This one guy is holding everyone off by himself, while using old-outdated dialogue???
Poor Chet must be spinning like the Mole digging a fresh tunnel!!!
btmosley, my guess du jour is that Sue Doko will show up next. She’ll announce that she’s furious with D’ipstick because she’s a social activist and the boss has betrayed her ideals. So she’ll tell him that while he was legally dead, she used her position to bankrupt his evil company. Wacky gunfire will ensue, someone will die and an arrest will be made.
Actually tthe only thing I’m certain about is that Locher will bring in Sue Doko so he can end this arc with a bad pun about her name.
CougarAllen, son of a gun, you’re right about that weapon! I don’t know what triggered its explosive growth, but this is the sort of work we’ve learned to expect from an artist of Locher’s caliber. It’s just like Locher, too–it becomes a bigger bore every day and remains unfired.
Sue Doko’s return seems unavoidable. It will let Locher drag this out even longer and throw in some bad puns at the end of the arc. It’s just a question of how many loony plot twists Locher will throw in beforehand, and of what role she’ll play in them.
My guess about Sue Doku is that she will fade into the sunset like Agent Karen Ennen (whom Locher spent almost a week building up), Useless Teevo (needs no introduction), the corpse on the stage, the swamp corpse, and of late, Sam. Why Locher wastes ink and space on these non-participants is beyond me.
The bus full of Federal Agents who were encircling 3D and Macy, for example - did they just evaporate? About the only people Locher impresses is his 9 am fingerpainting class at Adult Day Care. He might get a little attention and adoration at Clay Modeling Class from Mattie, but Mattie was suspended for three days for making inappropriate figures out of the modeling clay.
morrow, your guess is as good as mine. Given this arc’s incoherent nature, you probably have the better guess–I keep expecting Locher to make sense. It’s just my hunch that Locher is abusing this strip so he can vent his hatred. Sue Doko would give him a chance to spew more bile. So would D’ingbat’s ex-associates–it wouldn’t surprise me if they stumble into this scene on their way to work.
Have you seen Locher’s editorial cartoon for 31 October? The only other times I’ve seen Uncle Sam presented as a criminal have been in Marxist and Axis propaganda cartoons. And what’s with the medieval torturers? There’s no telling what goes on in his mind.

I haven’t heard dialog like this since 1950’s comedy shows and “The Naked Gun”.

Another EXCELLENT strip today! Really powerful art, and a stunning plot development for America’s Favorite Detective!

Here’s the twist in the plot-since Penny doesn’t have the guts to shoot 3d, the gun isn’t loaded

My, how that gun has grown!
I wouldn’t bet that Sue Doku will reappear. She could be as forgotten as the corpse on the stage….

I’d like to see this made into a movie. It would be pretty cool seeing all those Federal agents appearing and disappearing on screen.

Also, Tracy could do his best Three Stooges Curly imitation and yell “YOINK!” and grab the gun out of 3-D’s hand.

“Flatfoot” - Where did that come from. Update the lingo to at least the 1960’s and call Tracy “The Fuzz” or “Pig”
