Best way to hold back a sneeze is to put your tongue against your upper palate. It works also against a yawn. Not always effective, but 80% of the time at least.

HOW TO STOP A SNEEZE: I read it decades ago in a Readers Digest This is Joes Nose article: Gently pinch the sides of your nose about 2/3 of the way up. It gets some acupressure points. There are just some times when you DON"T need to be sneezing. This will delay the urge for a while. It has always worked for me. The old finger under the nose “trick” only results in a runny finger!

You have to be very careful abut holding in sneezes. Big one could backfire and blow your brains out through your ears.
