And so it begins…

An uninspired beginning to what became a long running thread.

I’ve heard nobody here but us chickens before…

Could be a common saying at the time that has since disappeared. Kinda like “He was really carrying the mail”, referring to someone speeding, but you never hear anymore.

When my mom drove too fast we’d always say “Way to go, Mario!” … i’m so old.

Wooden? I always thought he was “floating” stone tablets.

“Aint nobody here but us clams—and we ain’t got legs, neither!”

It’s just another variation on “ain’t nobody here but us chickens”..

Pool tables refer to pool halls and the general unresponsive reply to any inquiry of someone’s presence. Related to “If that’s my wife, tell her I’m not here.”
