And some of us had an antenna on a 20 ft pipe and we would turn the pipe with a pipewrench to another direction or two to get another station, sometimes more snow than picture but we were happy to hear from a different town. you wouldn’t want to turn it more than 360° twice or it might come off the base it was connected to in the ground. Yes lads those days when an NFL footballer player wasn’t down till he was piled on and could move. no more or so it sounded on the radio anyway.

Options for television can only get better as time goes on. Perhaps 3d or further into in the future, hologram television could put us in the middle of a football field to watch some future gridiron star throw a touchdown pass right over our heads.

Hologram television with a thousand channels, and still nothing worth watching.

Great memory-stirrer! Our test pattern had an Indian– Native American– on it. We watched that pattern quite a bit on Saturday mornings.

We had the 3rd TV in town. The first was the dealer, the second was the plumber who made the antennas. Ours had a switch where you could activate a different section of the antenna. We had three stations being within 75 miles of San Francisco.

Setebos, that must be the one, but I remember the chief as bigger– probably that was the part that caught my eye.

As much trouble as TVs were in those days, sometimes I have more trouble now with multiple remotes, misplaced remotes, getting the TV and cable to both turn on at the same time, and the toggling between HDMI and component inputs. In comparison, a little tinfoil on the rabbit ears and getting up to change the channel was easy street!

It’s been a long time since I heard the national anthem played at the end of the broadcast day.

People probably slept a lot more hours back then.

I have to agree with Slim. All those channels and the majority of them have paid infomercials. What a waste of air time. Football isn’t the only thing on TV by the way. If they can’t come up with anything better than so-called reality shows, then the broadcast companies should pay the price to show the old shows and movies when TV first came into being. At least that was something to watch.

Yes and we weren’t held hostage by a cable company who took off Ch.5 Fox and Ch.9 WOR in N.Y. We here are all fed up.

For those who are still wondering when - or if - some (or any) members of the Wallet family will remember to take their annual walk in the woods to look at the fall colors, I thought I would mention that One Big Happy seems to have revived the tradition. Today’s (Sunday, October 24) strip for One Big Happy features a walk in the woods.
