You bet’cha! It’s a great hobby, and one you can share with other people both as practitioners and as consumers. The ambition to become a connoisseur blends right in. You can brew small batches of many different styles to get acquainted with the ingredients and how each affects the flavor profile of the beer. It will occupy time learning about different styles and how they’re brewed. Researching techniques and finding particular ingredients, like hops.
1. how convenient is it to make alcohol beverages in a household with a teenager (though it may not be too different than having those beverages in bottles, if they can be re-opened)
2. as usual, Betty knows what others must like and what other people interests must be (as their own interests), because of course, everybody likes what she says they will like, because she says so
I was never interested in brewing my own beer, or having a bread making machine for that matter. I felt if I did I would have fewer opportunities to go out and sample the huge selection of good beers (and artisanal breads) in the stores.
I don’t drink, and the only thing I regret about it is not being able to brew my own beer. I mean, I could, but it’d be wasteful. I just know I’d enjoy doing it, trying different types, methods, etc, and experimenting, but unfortunately I would not enjoy the results.

I used to enjoy brewing my own beer, but it was the bottling part that I grew tired of. Emptying the bottles was no problem though.

Wine has sommeliers — beer has Cicerones.
Beer flavor is actually at least as complex as that of wine. Check out a ‘beer flavor wheel’ to see what I mean.
