I thought A&J lived in warm weather – a bit early for all those leaf bags. Most areas will take leaves for compost but only in paper bags – not plastic.
Best to get a leaf blower that also inhales and chops up the leaves as it does so. Automatic compost for the garden. Since Janis is supposed to be such a keen gardener, this comic doesn’t make much sense.
I rake most into the yard and mulch in place with mulching mower. My leaf blower also can suck and grind leaves and spit out the particles back into the bushes. Been doing this for 15 years.
I didn’t realize that the black objects in the last panel were bags of leaves until I read the comments… I thought Arlo had burned up a bunch of pumpkins in the garden in an over-enthusiastic attempt at clearing out the fallen leaves (and I couldn’t understand why Janis looked happy about it)! Too early for me this morning, I guess…
Our city will pick up loose leaves piled at the curb – any given block has a one-week window in the late fall – and shred them for mulch, which is then available as free takeaway. Bagged leaves end up in the landfill.

Noise pollution and filling up the landfills. Not such a good job at all.

So he wakes up and uses a leaf blower rather than being awakened by someone else using a leaf blower. I don’t understand.

Preemptive strike so Janis doesn’t nag him to do it. Old dog, new tricks :)

My wife is also a leaf maniac. With each leaf that falls, it’s the Battle of the Marne.

The grass is still awfully green to have that many bags of leaves don’t you think?

We have two acres, surrounded by state forest. We really don’t much choice but to mulch the leaves. Raking or bagging would take for-bloody-ever.

I’m confused…In one episode they are worrying about alligators in a swamp and now leaves are turning and falling this early in the year!

Time to slip into a bubble bath, Janis, as long as the leaf blower is already out.

( January 14, 2004 – a favorite A&J for my husband and me.)

Rake? mulch? bag? I just leave ’em – they call them “leaves” for a reason!

Makes no sense to take perfectly good organic material and stick it in a plastic bags to clog up the landfill.

After two or three days I finally get it. Gasoline and fumes spew from the leaf blower, and while they’re out of sight, they still do harm.
