I think it’s a commentary on how Hispanic stereotyping was “OK” in the 50’s (remember the Frito Bandito?) and how it now seems we haven’t come as far as we thought we had. Racism of all types has always been alive and well but our current environment now makes people feel free to crawl out from under their rocks to express it.
This is a great piece. I see a little bit of Andy Capp, sure. But also (Reaching waaaaay back) Dondi as well as the Blondie. The yellowing is a great touch. Nice job guys!

looks like a Hispanic version of Andy Capp. Perhaps funny, if you have no alcoholics or recovering ones in the family. Or, amoung your close friends.

never liked andy capp for that very reason. Why that woman ever had anything to do with him never made any sense to me

So, in 1954 Hispanics were a bunch of drunks? I am understanding this strip less and less. I’m not sure what the authors are trying to say.

Since it’s a 1954 strip Tia Carmen should belt Sergio one for disrespecting her

I like the color faded look of the 1950’s artwork.

Many Americans grew up reading Gus Arriola’s “Gordo” comic strip. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gordo_(comic_strip)

I know what they’re getting at but I think they missed the point.
