Schulz did say the Great Pumpkin was a mash up of several holidays so all the money retailers make now during Halloween fits into the religious aspect of the Cult of the Pumpkin.
One of our newer neighbors – next door to us – has overdecorated for Halloween – there is a skeleton ghost hanging from the tree, witches, monster heads, skull lights, tomb stones, netting over the shrubs, etc. We are on very small property and this is within 10 feet of our house and is disgusting and we have to look at whenever we go in or out. Two houses beyond them another, newer, neighbor has a huge spider web coming from their second floor window to the ground with 2 gigantic spiders on it – plus more stuff. This one is a major problem as my husband is arachnophobic and we cannot drive past this house which is only 3 houses away and have to go in the opposite direction and drive in a huge circle on other streets. Saw on the news that someone (elsewhere) set up an entire car accident on their lawn – broken actual car, full size body with blood all over, yellow tape, etc. Their neighbors are having a fit. I don’t blame them. If not for not wanting to start a feud I would complain to both of our neighbors.

I didn’t get any Columbus Day cards this year. Sort of took some of the fun out of the pasta and red wine cookout.
