What’s that old saying about how it’s always easier to ask for forgiveness rather than permission?

haha, wow, glad my kid’s not into hockey - a karate uniform’s not all that expensive.

Then again the instruments they play, a violin, viola and ‘cello…

I totally think he should play! They can afford it and it will get him away from the TV and burn off extra energy, my Gran always says that a tired kid is a good kid.

Besides, the Pattersons can definitely afford it if John’s a dentist. My dentist and his sons play. So do I - my team got slaughtered last night, and I’m in just a little bit of pain.

Say, hildigunnur: Have another kid who plays the violin, and you can have a string quartet. :)

Hey!! hockey is good for a dentist’s kid…the team would have a resident dentist.

If they can encourage more kids to play hockey, that would mean more business for John. It’s a win-win situation!

Elly could be concerned about the money this is going to cost buying all the necessary equipment needed to play this sport … or the time it’s going to take getting him to and from practices and games all the time when she’s also got a young toddler to take care of … or if Michael isn’t very coordinated, she could be concerned that he’ll get his teeth knocked out or some bones broken. (Yeah, her husband may be a dentist but that still doesn’t mean she’d want to take the chance of having his teeth knocked out!)

It’s a good thing that his Dad is a Dentist, eh? :)

My son broke his cheek bone and the orbital bone under his eye, not playing hockey, but soccer.

WebSpider – that’s what I was thinking – at least he’ll get free dental care when he needs crowns.

SCAATY, I play the violin myself - got my quartet already :D (maybe their dad ought to take up double bass?:)

NightGaunt49, I think it is standard now that ALL players must wear headgear with proper face protection these days.
