Aunt Fritzi is a lot hotter in the classics than in the new strips.

FRITZI: “Big deal—I find a fifty on my dresser every morning.”

Again, Nancy’s gluttony. It’s a trait that’s been depicted in this comic for over seventy years, but readers of the current version complain as if it were invented to make sweet little Nancy look bad.

I wonder what she’s gobbling up. Ice cream soda? Roast turkey? Too many chocolates? Say, what all could you buy with 5 dollars in those days?

Does Aunt Fritz expect Nancy to get sick from that bill she found?

Speaking of the long history of this comic, we are about two years and six weeks from Fritzi’s 100th birthday.

Yes, when this strip started on October 9, 1922, it was called Fritzi Ritz. It was created by Larry Whittington. Ernie Bushmiller took over almost three years later and soon redrew Fritzi with his fiancee (and future wife) as his model.

Nancy didn’t show up till January of 1933, so we are still over a decade from her 100th anniversary.
