@TEMPLO S.U.D.: I don’t think was meant as a harsh statement; it’s not a critique of Elizabeth’s face, but rather a comment saying that she was paying more attention to Elizabeth as a whole person and not Elizabeth who might have a couple of less physically attractive features. I’m hoping that this comment might help pull Elizabeth out of her self-hatred…
Candace envies Elizabeth’s better looks and unfreckled face – no matter how low you think you are, someone else will tell you aren’t as low as they are. Other side of the fence…
To all the previous postings, two points. Firstly, I do not believe Candace was being mean, I personally believe that she was trying to cheer Elizabeth up. Secondly, in situations such as this I remember what my grandmother used to remark to me when I’d make a critical comment, “Who’s paying you to be a critic? If you’re not being paid, you have no business offering an opinion!” (my grandmother’s favorite “writer” was Hedda Hopper, by the way!)((…and my family hardly EVER ’practiced what they preached, EITHER!)) (((…nor do I!)))

Candace has a freckled face with buck teeth. Clearly, she envies Liz’s looks.

Elizabeth spelled “stoopidest” like that? Maybe she got a good score on the spelling test, but now we know it was not with flying colors. :)

Burns said it best: . . . to see ourselves as others see us, . . . It would solve a lot of problems.

I think and believe that she is saying that as a nice, sincere and loving compliment.
