If animals had thumbs… Imagine what they would get up to. When I had pet rats I could tell that was their main desire. But raccoons do have thumbs, at least I Think so, that is why they aren’t often kept as pets. Cats would probably be the most trouble if they had thumbs. I saw a video of how a rat will help another rat to get out of a live catch trap. Even though they then had to share the food, that showed that rats have empathy for their comrades. or comrats.
My first baby cat Sabrina was a mistress of kibble prison breaks. We first tried a plastic ice cream container. She chewed a hole in the bottom of it an essentially made her own gravity dispenser. So then we humans thought we would thwart her by doubling up on the plastic containers. So she knocked it over and popped the lid off. Eventually we put the container in a cabinet that latched shut. She figured out how to open the cabinet. She was such a smart girl!
Puck in the last panel pondering away is absolutely hilarious :) Watching animals – and little kids – trying to figure out how to get into things is so enjoyable.
A warm and happy Caturday to all BCN orbsters out there. Today is supposed to be our last day in the deep freeze, at least according to the Weather Network. Monday, it is actually supposed to be above freezing and we are expecting rain on Thursday (all warm weather notices subject to change without notice).
Good thing The BCN boys don’t have what my kitties have, that’s 3 cockatoos to do their dirty work. I have to keep the gamma containers where the birds can’t get to them when they are out or the jig is up. I keep the bird food and treats in glass jars with metal lids but anything in plastic with snap on lids gets shredded in seconds. It’s not that they actually work together but, they work together.
When Vlad was still a kitten and before I got Sebastian, Vlad knocked the bag of food onto the floor. After taking pictures, cleaned it up. And bought a container that is s squire, hold about 12LBs of cat food and have gray bars on the side of the lid that acts like a lock that can be popped open. So far, the cats haven’t figure that out. But then, they always have food in their bowl. It takes them about 3 or 4 days to get through it.
I’ve always believed that my Pounce would be positively dangerous with opposable thumbs. He’s already able to open doors & cupboards, change channels on the tv, type and send emails against my will, set off alarm clocks, and can hear ice cream being scooped into a dish from 3 rooms away. All he needs is thumbs to rule the world.

“Seals out break-ins” Funny, but I don’t remember Tupperware using that in their ad campaigns.

Late ’70’s? That’s even the same vintage as that diaper pail my parents used to use to secure the kibble! Don’t see a handle on this one, though.

in Panel 3, the knob & creases on the lid make it look like Puck is wearing a false nose & whiskers!

I still have the half gallon version of that tub. The gallon one, like in the drawing, has long since become embrittled and broken.

Enlist a raccoon to help. They have thumbs, but watch out. He will probably demand most of the kibble as payment.
