It’s a good lesson, teaches the kid how things actually work in the world ( not just the US ) . In an ideal world voters would have acquired an in-depth knowledge of the issues at hand and be constantly watching the actions and laws passed by their elected officials and representatives ( not just listening to campaign promises at election rallys ? )How many of us can really claim to do so ? Then why do we keep complaining that our politicians are corrupt buffoons ?
How government spends money is how the people governing get money. Sure, it isn’t much. You spend trillions and only get millions back, like at speaking engagements, books nobody will read, consulting gigs and the like. But the trillions spent are essentially free money, because it belongs to other people, so it’s all upside.
The GOP is the only party that is beholden to the NRA and other big money outfits. The NRA is being investigated for laundering Russian mob money. I bet that won’t even close their doors.
Constitutional Law Final Exam, 1 Question – How do you get a law passed through Congress.Student 1 discussed all the steps from getting a sponsor, the committee process, both houses, reconciliation to approve differences between House and Senate version, Presidential approval, etc., and got an A-Student 2 wrote down only 3 words and got an A+.“Sneak it through”.
I remember a looney tunes episode where both Yosemite Sam and Bugs Bunny were running for Mayor. It turned out both of them lost to an actual Mare (an A$#) Hmm how life works so well. Moral of the story. Hell if I know. Just thought of the episode.
Congressman Charlie Wilson told a story of how he got interested in politics. A local Councilman killed Wilson’s dog. So on Election Day Charlie went out and convince a number of People to Votes in the election. Wilson drove them to the polls. When he dropped them off he told them that he didn’t want to influence their vote by that this Councilman had killed his dog. That day the Councilman in question lost his re-election bid. That is how hard work and organization can defeat money. Money can help run a campaign, but it doesn’t vote. Only People Vote.

Back during the great recession when the government shut down was hurting the SMALL BUSINESS my husband worked for, my mom wrote her congress critter and told him as much. His reply was “I don’t see you on my list of campaign donors.” My husband lost his job, we lost our house, and that bobo is finally retiring this year….

There used to be a saying when I was younger that I don’t hear today. But it still rings true. “Money talks, and bullshirt walks.”

This is true pretty much all over the world (that money gives you easy access to politicians).
