The second panel is wrong. It should be volume, not area, but that would demolish the pun. Hmmm- Make the change.

I rather design of it look like the Jupiter 2.

Flying saucers aren’t 2D. You need to calculate the volume.

This is fifth grade, seventh grade at worst, math. The panels clearly show how the calculation is done. Wouldn’t it be great if so much of the rest of life is so clearly explained? Mathematics is comparatively easy.

My Dad worked at the real Area 51 back in the 1970s. No aliens. Lots of nukes, though.

Sounds plausible to me – I can’t read any of that stuff. The little I did know about algebra – is long in my past.

I won’t lie and say I read it through because I didn’t. I read the first and last panels then attempted to get the joke. All I got was the simplified math.

I wonder how many times Bill Amend had to amend the size to get something reasonable that would come out exactly 51.

Several people have commented on wishing to know the volume of the flying saucer. Such would of course depend on how high you have it cranked, as well as whether you’re playing folk music or metal. Simple calculation.
