Arlo is absolutely right; even gold only has value because people agree it has value – and most of our “money” now is just 1s and 0s in some digital file. Go with the washer standard!Though I must point out, A&J are Americans, and thus have no pennies. The penny is a British coin; the current smallest US coin is a cent.
BTW: Gold has intrinsic value beyond mere perception. It is useful, nearly indestructible, and finite in supply. I read an article years ago where it was estimated that an ounce of gold purchased about as many loaves of bread in modern times as it did in ancient Egypt. To its value as a commodity is relatively fixed. It is the value of “money” that has changed over the millennia.
I had a gallon jar almost full of wheat pennies about 10 years ago. After going through them and picking out what I wanted I sold the rest for 3 cents each.

Stainless steel half inch washers are currently $.93 each per the googles.

Arlo may be onto something! I’ve bought washers worth a dollar or more EACH! Stainless up to several dollars each!

This is nothing new. Buyer and Seller have always agreed on value. The money you trade for an item never has the value of the item you traded for.

Janis is wrong, pre-1982 pennies have 2 cents worth of copper in them at today’s copper price.

Arlo’s washer idea has a hole in it.

Arlo should get involved with crytocurrency, especially bitcoins. That’s the current monetary scam.
