We visited Deadwood, and it’s a nice little town. The bar in which Hickock was killed has a sign out front pointing out this fact.
If you have not seen the TV series called Deadwood, I recommend it. However, you might want to look at the Wikipedia article first, if you are squeamish about so-called “bad words.” They are very plentiful in this series.

James Butler Hickok was born in Homer Illinois (present day Troy Grove). It’s a very small farming community.
