From what I have heard, Old English Sheepdogs are a nightmare of maintenance and Elly is barely scratching the surface (so to speak) of what you need to do as an OES owner.
I’ve always had large dogs and I can relate all to well, to the struggle in the tub.
My solution was to wash the dog in the shower. I was gonna get soaked anyway, so….
It still didn’t make the drying and brushing any easier. Most of my guys resigned themselves to the inevitable, once enticed, nudged or heaved into the shower stall and tolerated the bathing. Some even liked the drying and brushing part afterwards.
The nail clipping was always an adventure with most of ’em. It was easier to shoe a rank horse, than trim the nails on a couple of my dogs.
In the Summer; in Houston, I would bathe the dog in a large metal tub outside. I would even warm the water and bring it out. After bathing I would dry him off with old bath towels but had to hand on to him or he would get loose and immediately find spot of dirt and roll around in it and the dirt would stick to his damp fur. I would then have to start all over.
All my dogs did that. My mom kept them inside till dried they let them out, came home looking as bad as they did before the bath… turned the hose on them and for get the shampoo… typical dogs
Well, I’ve said it before, my dogs always loved to be bathed, and I’m so glad about that. The one we have now, is so old, she almost falls asleep when I’m drying and brushing her after….
Dogs learn cues so know when the bath is for them. My son puts on his hat and gun belt (we have bears) and the 2 dogs go nuts. They know they’re climbing up the hill.
For those of you who don’t watch The Price is Right, here is the end message: “Bob Barker reminding you to help prevent animal cruelty, have your pets spayed or neutered.”

Funny how Farley knew that bath was being prepared for HIM and not for a human!

I wonder if Farley was imagining he was ‘Spaceman Spiff’ while taking the bath?

It’s hard on who to feel sorry for? Farley or Elly?
