I still remember my late mom wearing bifocals for the first time. Now that I’m at her age when she wore that, I know eventually I’ll have to wear it too. Probably tomorrow ;)
Instead of the lined bifocals, try progressive. It takes a bit of getting used to at first but after that it is so natural. The secret – initially, don’t move eyes to look left and right, but turn your head. Gradually revert to moving your eyes left and right.Bifocal contacts are available also.
I took to progressives right away. Much better than bifocals for keeping things in focus! I still need dedicated reading glasses for doing fine work with my hands though.

I still have two different sets of glasses – one for reading, the other for distance. I refuse to get bifocals!

My folks had me later in life. I still remember the horror in my Father’s face when he tried to play catch with me after he got his tri-focals!
