I shop at the library’s discard store, where I usually find some rare old 1st edition for a couple bucks. Its getting hard to find anything new published in hard cover.
Pass by the books you haven’t read but everbody else has, and it’s as if you’ve aleady read them.
Pass by the books on subjects you care about, but by authors you don’t like.

Pick up “If On A Winter’s Night A Traveller…” by Italo Calvino, and take it to the counter proclaimg for all to hear “Out of my way, you illiterate peasants, for I am about to purchase a book by ITALO CALVINO!”
At the counter, see a book that has a picture of a cat with spaghetti on its head on the cover. Buy that instead.
I use to read and loved going to book stores. Now when I go to the store, these are the signs I see also. However, there is one aisle I do buy from, and, that’s the humor one.Love my collected strips books from comics I read everyday.Just wish there was more and different ones available than Pastis,Davis and other staples.
That should be “People who are more successful than I.” It’s a bookstore, FFS, they should use correct grammar. (hmm, I just finished my 2nd cup of coffee and I’m still grumpy…maybe I should go back to bed)
I rarely buy new books. If I buy books, it will be either through the market places through BN or Amazon and they will be used. Or the library sales. But I only buy books that will go into my library. Mostly learning books. But reading books, the would depend. I get most of those through the library. Recently got introduced to a new author from England, the series, The Invisible Library.

How sad. Betty has no idea what can be gleaned from reading a book. New worlds, new recipes, most of all new ideas. She just isn’t looking in the right places

This strip strikes home today. I used to read for hours on end. Now it’s hard to get interested in anything out there.

Whenever I drive by a bookstore with my brother-in-law he will always exclaim: “Look! A museum!”
