Now we know why Watterson named him Calvin.

Well look who thinks he’s Mr Astronomy!

Correction: when you’re not HELD responsible for them.

Ignore the joke for a moment (if you can) and pause to admire Watterson’s artistry. To avoid the repetitive blackness of a night scene, in panel 2 he uses a white background with a black oval as a token of the night, with Hobbes taking up much of the foreground, and in panel 4 he puts the characters as silhouettes against the stars – in negative!

Astrology is just a blueprint of you life, you still have free will and yes Calvin, you are responsible.

Interesting the the stars in panels 1 and 3 are more oval whereas in panel 4, the start are portrayed with diffraction spikes, like the spiky hairs on Calvin’s head and Hobbes’s head and chest, reminding us that we are the stuff of stars.

Calvin is just setting up his next excuse for tomorrow.

This is one of those good comics to cutout and display on the fridge.

And that would be why religion is so popular amongst the masses. Why take responsibility yourself when you can make up a god for that instead.

Calvin has discovered the primary benefit of Identity Politics.

So that explains the puzzled look I received when I replied to a query of what sign I was born under with “Eat at Joe’s.”

It’s all fun and games, until you are actually held responsible.
