With this kind of “security” I think Dirk Raider won.

If you protest TSA procedures, the Tea Partyists win.

The Tea Partyists might be right on that one. It would have to be something on the level of a DefCon 2 emergency to make me fly these days. Even then, there would have to be absolutely no other way to get there from here.

If I was encased in an aluminum tube at 30,000 feet going 500 mph, I would feel a lot safer knowing that efforts had been made to ensure my safety. There are people out there trying to kill us, and they have a history of using airplanes to do it.

If your delicate sensibilities are bruised by the current procedures, I fully support your right to take a bus, train, boat, or car to where you want to be.

Delicate sensibilities have nothing to do with it. Common sense dictates that you take a moment to think about who it is that is trying to kill us and then target those individuals. DUH!

Is it any coincidence that Tim uses his dumbest character to represent the TSA :)

I’m with Roger. Someone phrased it, “Why don’t we stop looking for bad things and start looking for bad people? It works for the Israelis.”

Indeed. And nobody needs airtight security more. I’ve been through it going both ways. But they look for bad things too, and I thought I was holding up the progress of Western civilization when some poor young man had to go through every pocket in my multi-pocketed overcoat.

So far, I like the experience with the Brits the best. Leave it to them to somehow strike the right balance and make you think you’re both protected and treated with respect.

Tom Tomorrow at “This Modern World” explains the real reason for the Nude-O-Scan (tm) machines:

    http://tinyurl.com/2frhh9c

Note to aircraft-engineer: if the TSA were serious about keeping explosives off aircraft, they’d scan/search the people who work on the ramp loading luggage, food, etc. Oddly enough (according to Patrick Smith of “Ask the Pilot”), even though the pilots are searched, the ground workers in intimate contact with the plane and its cargo are not. Go figure…
