The wheels are turning in Zonkers brain. This could be frightening indeed.

It never crossed my mind that this could be true. Thanks, Doughfoot.

Doughfoot and sandfan, never crossed my mind either! That’s hilarious. The cartoon seeps into reality, then reality back into the cartoon …

    Wheels are turnin’…

Or as Dr. Hunter S. Thompson so aptly said, “When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.”

“Wesleyan University students hold an unofficial yearly event in April called Zonker Harris Day….”

Had to read all the way to the bottom to see what you were talking about. That is hilarious!

From my research on the web, it looks like the removal of the name Zonker Harris day happened two years ago, but it appears now that the festival is called “Ze Who Is Not To Be Named”, which very aptly conveys the ridiculousness of Wesleyan having forced the name removal.

I would say that what was not stupid was the festival’s name. What was stupid were Wesleyan’s administration and ResLife’s actions.

The U. Pres is missing a great deal. He should welcome what could become a century long tradition.

For those who don’t know, which must be a great number of you indeed,HERE IS AN EXAMPLE of a student inspired yearly celebration that has enjoyed great success for nearly a century.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hobo_Day

It replaced a celebration that was deemed unseemly by the college administration.

I only know about this because I’m an alum.

    Note to self

    Self,

In the future, don’t embarrass myself or the University by giving Gary Trudeau reason and material with which to further mock the University.

    Regards, Self

I wonder if president roth knows that gt is doing him the honour of putting him in the doonesbury cartoon. that last panel sounds suspiciously like a threat. now what bad publicity could gt have in mind?

people who like reading doonesbury are most likely people who would automatically disagree with roth on this issue anyway. (what they call “preaching to the converted”.) whereas who gt wants to reach is the other people, those who don’t read doonesbury. hmmmmmmm… how could he achieve that?

Rina, it’s no longer a threat… it’s now become part of history. As Corzac implies, the cartoon became the reality as a function of being the cartoon. Not all of GT’s metaphysical journeys have been as successful.

Normally I’d question the appropriateness of GT’s use of his bully pulpit for such things, but considering he’s supporting Zonker Day, I’d say it does reside in his court.

You can almost see the smoke and hear the gears grinding. I’ve never seen the conniving side of Zonk.
