We no longer have to worry about learning from the past. Today we are able to re-write history to validate our present situation. Someday, even the Martin Luther King Jr. monuments that are in place all over this country will be torn down.
If we weren’t talking about soldiers, we’d be talking about why all these folks were on strike against the VA and demanding that all promises made to them were fulfilled.
I was a nurse first then went to medical school. We rotated through wards at two VAhospitals. One was a surgery rotation. This was in the 70’s. I was appalled at the nurses working there. They were awful. The forms for history and physicals were multipage and not all sections were needed. Also it was hard to get non emergency labs done. Lab personnel came at rigid intervals only.
puzzled why some think committing vandalism and violence on inanimate and animate things they show how ‘special’ ‘non-racist’ they are. like I said it just puzzles me how some seem to think that by showing/demonstrating hate and hate-filled violence they are being helpful, respectful, and helping bring better understanding to any situation.
but then I am an “old fuddy-duddy” that always have thought that meaningful dialogue and thoughtful listening could and does solve problems better than screaming, yelling, profanity-laced exchanges and tantrums of destructive actions. silly me. :(
The VA always seems to be a favorite whipping boy. My father and father-in-law (both WWII vets) used it: my father, being a science professional, hated all doctors but did get decent VA treatment as part of a disability. For my father-in-law, the hardest thing was to get him to go to the VA in the first place (a common WWII vet excuse I’ve heard – they were “just doing a job” and “don’t deserve special treatment”), yet he genuinely needed and deserved it. When he finally went in, they treated him great and it really helped him, with his small income.
The VA has a few shining spots, and mostly not shining spots. It’s a perfect example of a danged near socialized medicine setup.
The pay is crap for providers, and it takes so damned long to actually get hired by them it isn’t even funny. Couple months ago there was an article about the VA having a strong track record of hiring doctors that had been suspended in numerous states.
Nothing but the best for my fellow vets.
And the problem goes back decades, at least to the 1960s. Underfunded, bloated, and ridiculously inefficient. Best thing that could happen to it is that it be gutted and completely rebuilt. Start with the patient and then build it up from there.

The VA has specialists in treatment of wounds and other damage that civilian medical centers never see.

I think Shoe meant to say appointment to the VA, ’cuz I can totally see Trump replacing Shulkin with a Confederate general.

The VA forced me to accept medical supplies I didn’t want or need and charged me a co-pay of $8. Location, Marion Indiana. I’m beyond angry.
