Whoa. Look at that deep wound. It’s not healing because it’s too deep. It needs sutures to close it. Longer you leave it open, infection sets in. You’re right that Farley shouldn’t be so trusting – you know zip about basic first aid. Deep wound, go to vet ASAP.
For those readers who were concerned or stated that farley would die later in the strip. When Lynn reset the strip she stated that there would be two major changes. One was that farley would not die. she received so many calls and letters protesting his death the first time, and stated that she would not make that mistake again. She also said there would be no April, as that was a child she had wanted to have, but decided that 3 children at that time of her life would be too much, so she just added it to the strip at that time. At the time of the reset she stated this in this in an interview that was published in the new york daily news where the strip ran, and were I used to read it on and off. But who knows she might change her mind again!
A similar thing happened to me and our wonderful poodle Lacey* We had lost my Mom in 2011, and dad was alone in the house with her. She made it to 17, and was generally fine when one day Dad called and mentioned that her back legs were no longer working… I found out the vets phone number on the way up to Dad’s near Peterborough, Ontario, and when I got there, Dad had run into town… Saw my little sweetheart sitting on the couch, and gently took her outside. Her legs had failed her. I got close to her face and told her that “I wasn’t sure what to do Honey” She looked at me, and gave me a kiss on the face – which meant to me that she trusted me to do the right thing… exactly as it appears in this strip today. Thanks for reminding me Lynn of our beautiful treasure Lacey*
I wish the jokes about the Asian family next door to the Pattersons trying to have “Farleyburgers” would stop. I have been stationed in parts of the world where they actually eat dogs and cats. They often abuse the animals by kicking them, thinking that will make the meat more tender.
We used to treat our horses and dog’s cuts with a mixture of sulpha powder and Vaseline. Even if the animal licked the wound ( which they usually would, if they could ) the sulpha would get into their system and aide in infection prevention.
I also kept an “animal first aid kit” , as well a a human one. I’ve stitched up more than a couple of critters, in my time.
coughs and clears my throat Who’s cutting onions in this comment page? sniff I’m not crying, it’s allergies or onions or … a spec of dust in my eye. Yeah, dust in my eye….
No! You should’ve taken him to the vet when you first saw it. That’s what responsible pet owners do! Anything to save a buck even if it’s at the expense of others!

Lynn’s Notes:
The wound on Willy’s leg was like a cut, but it wouldn’t close and wouldn’t heal.

Elly, Farley needs to be taken to the vet when a cut is that deep and he won’t stop limping!

What about a cone of shame? Or better know as a Recovery Cone. But I agree take him to the vet.

Is that a flea jumping off of Farley in the last panel?

I’ll bet Farley is doing a lot of licking his cut. That means….da,da,ta,da….“the cone of shame!”

Between the look on his face, the lick he gave, and how long it’s been, GET HIM TO A VET!!!!!
