Mr. Overkill: Refern! Jeff: You wanted to see me, Mr. Overkill? Overkill: I called Karzai! He'd never heard of me! Or my money! Jeff: That's impossible, boss - I gave it to him personally! Overkill: Really. And how did you know it was actually him? Jeff: Easy - he had a beard. Overkill: A beard. How unusual. Jeff: And an accent! A thick foreign accent!

I can get a fake beard from the local Santa and fake a bad foreign accent if it will get me that kind of money…

How does Overkill know it was actually Karzai on the phone?
nagut almost 14 years ago
Sexist discrimination! I don’t have a beard, and if I had one, people still wouldn’t think I was Karzai. No, not even Jeff. No wonder I never have money.

A beard and an accent doesn’t narrow the field much in that benighted country.

He had a beard and a forked tongue!

Ok, call Havok, He will find out whom took the money. then, perhaps he can use the I-phone with the smart-bomb app to get it back.

I don’t have a beard, but I know some people who do have beards. Maybe they could pick up the money? After Don’t Ask Don’t Tell is revoked, several of them won’t need their beards.

Curious that Karzai has never heard of Overkill. I seem to recall Redfern meeting Karzai inside the Presidential Palace. If an imposter is running around, he has some mighty good contacts if they can get him into that office.
As noted above, I think someone needs to check on Karzai and see how much more he wants to bleed Overkill for. Someone is blowing smoke here. Of course, it is highly possible Redfern did give the money to the wrong person even if he did meet Karzai previously.

And just what kind of idiot (Overkill) would actually trust Redfern/Red Rascal with $50 million? Got what he deserved.
And is this happening or still Redferns fictional story?

^ It is actually happening! I saw it on Fox news.

Too bad GT’s strip was overtaken by Wikileaks. Jeff’s fantasy transaction with an impostor, as it turns out, would have held no surprises for our genuine Overkills who–as the diplomatic cables show–have known all along about these frauds.

Well, I’ve been watching Fox News all week, and I never saw this story. Maybe Geraldo covered it on Sunday.
Good point, palin. Reality is often stranger than fiction, and as Zonker so eloquently pointed out on Saturday, GT only deals with fictional subjects.

I love this. (: that is in fact most of the Afghan population. which is kinda the point. i love the satire on how the money supposedly going towards the government of Afghanistan is seemingly “disappearing”

Your observation is very astute, TexTech. This storyline is beginning to lose it’s continuity.
First off, unless Karzai would accept a check (very unlikely), Jeff couldn’t have just handed him $50,000,000 in cash. Even in all $100 bills (and assuming no air space between the bills), a mass of money of that amount would be a block of about 20 cubic feet (approx. 2.75 feet on a side) and weigh about 1100 lbs.
Yes, there are secret off-shore accounts in various countries, but I think it unlikely Overkill would give Jeff authority to transfer that much money anywhere – assuming Jeff even knew how to do it. So, someone in Overkill’s organization had to transfer it for him. Jeff couldn’t have done this by himself.
Yeah, I know this is just a comic, but still …

I wonder how much differently things would have turned out if Ahmad Shah Massoud had not been killed on 9/9. He was a more logical choice than Karzai, for the US to “install” as leader after the Northern Alliance over ran the Taliban, and may have been a credible counterweight to Hekmatyar. Masood’s forces were the ones who wiped out the vanguard of a Soviet motorized regiment in the Salang tunnel. I think he would have been more palatable and less corrupt to the Afghans than Karzai.
Sebastian Junger wrote a good article about him in Vanity Fair.

I keep hoping GT will just kill Jeff off and put me out of my misery.
