Doesn’t matter, she wouldn’t have caught it even if she wasn’t reading off the paper.

One of these days, CB will tell Lucy, “If you think you can do better, here’s the ball. Do it yourself!!!”

Of course, if you’re staring at your notes, you’re even less likely to notice where the ball goes so you can field it.

There’s focused and then there’s Lucy so into the paper that neither she (nor anyone else for Charlie Brown’s team) noticed the other team got a hit.

When my daughter was about Lucy’s age, she was standing in the short-stop position, chatting with second base, with her wrist relaxed so her over-sized glove glove lay open. When a pop fly landed in her glove, she didn’t even notice until her team mates shouted at her.

Well, at least Charlie Brown didn’t get tumbled and have all his clothes blown off.

And yet all the blame for their losses goes to the pitcher and not the awful outfielder.

Well, if C.B. and his team were batting, I would’ve said:

    We want a pitcher—not a belly itcher!

Next time, tell her to go back into position like you use to… even if that doesn’t help.
