Many years ago, my husband and I were being harassed by an ex-friend of his. He was slashing the tires on our cars, putting sugar in the gas tanks, and calling us every morning around 2:30 am. We had to buy 8 new tires 3 times, as well as get the fuel tanks flushed twice. We had the same mechanic/tire guy do all the work. Less than a year after that, our mechanic renovated his shop and added 2 extra bays. We always wondered if we helped fund that.
Finding an honest service garage in a dealership has been my lifetime goal. I finally gave up this spring when I went in for a $200 service and got a bill for $650. No more dealerships for me.
I have always been leery of any car service station, but I finally have found one that seems to be pretty honest. They will even tell me that things did not need to be replaced, or a certain service was not yet required. There were times when I asked them to do a service (like a brake job because I thought it was needed and was prepared for a $$$$ bill and they said – nah, your good, just $20 for some fluid and time). They also send me a COMPLETE listing of all things that were fine, things to watch and things that are really needed to be done. Then I can see (and pick and choose) what I want them to do. They are not a chain but a 3rd generation private garage. Grandpa, dad and son all still work together. They even have loaner cars if you really need a vehicle while yours is being worked on (and a shuttle if all you need is a pick up or drop off locally). AND they are within walking distance! What more could you ask for? :o)
And that’s why my sons and I do most of our own repairs. Good times working together. Thanks to service manuals and You Tube, you’ll find most things aren’t all that difficult.

I have a great mechanic, I will admit he isn’t cheap but he won’t do anything without asking and it’s always done right the first time.
