“Vici” is “I conquered”. It’s the same root word as English “victory”. As others have said, “vidi” is “I saw”. It’s the same root word as English “video”.
I saw a couple T-Shirts that had the best sayings. One was "Veni, Vidi, Visa (I came, I saw, I shopped) and the other "Veni, Vidi, Vegan (I came, I saw, I had salad.)
Er, possibly the joke is that the character who says, “I took Latin too” fails to notice that “veni vici …” is NOT the familiar “I came, I saw”, but “I came, I conquered, I slept” (which actually makes some sort of sense).

It should be: veni, vidi, dormivi – the 1st person singular perfect tense of venio is veni, not vini

Actually, quite a few people did. The year I entered high school was the first year that our rural school district ended mandatory Latin.

Interesting. I wouldn’t think that cubicle walls could hold up a hammock with Ed in it. They just don’t look that solid.

An alternate joke would have had Carolina there instead of C.J., and Carolina comments “Yup, good Spanish.”

Not so great when you realise it would be pronounced “Weeni, Weedy, Dormeewy”
