It is hard being in an environment where morals are considered quaint, inconvenient, or ill-advised. When “business” becomes the gospel to be pursued, and all else pales in comparison.
It is hard to argue to argue for energy conservation from a personal economic point of view when Super Hi-Test gasoline is $1.49 an imperial gallon and my monthly electric bill for my 2 family house is $42 a month ( our little cabin in the country runs $4.99 monthly ), water & sewer $10.99 monthly, a large cylinder of propane gas for cooking ( which lasts at least 3 months ) is $2.50 .
And yet….the people here are more conscious of conservation and the environment then anywhere in the U.S.A. They recycle everything, are environmentally aware and active, conserve energy and work hard to keep their environment clean and pollution free.
Perhaps conservation of resources comes from growing up impoverished or without luxuries. Old ( good habits ) die hard. I’m reminded of my parents and grandparents living through the Great Depression. They were thrifty by nature and necessity.
People in the States ( and Europe ) live in a disposable society. Consumers use, toss out, and replace rather then repair or repurpose.
I live in a small apartment of a complex that was built in the 1960’s. So when the sun is up it gets hot. And this week in Houston it will top 100° not even counting where the humidity and direct sunlight will add 10 or more degrees. From $40 to $70+ as it gets hotter and hotter.

“Real fuel for real cars.” So 20th century (and in fairness, this is a 30-year old “classic” rerun).
For the 21st century, real cars are electric and real fuel can come from the sun.
Thank you Apollo the sun god — in the sky, but not invisible; and you actually have real power.

Solar power this and solar power that, but when you stop and think about it all power has come from the sun.

“You want oil? We own the wells. You want coal? We own the mines. You want solar? We own the….. er….. solar power isn’t feasible.”
