I don’t know how anyone else watches fireworks displays in their cities/towns but from where I come from, the fireworks displays is one of the few times people of strongly opposing political ideologies choose to be anywhere near each other. Granted they’re not mingling among one another, but they’re not segregated. You have your own family spread out on your own blanket with your own snacks and lovely beverages. That conservative neighbor you can’t stand who usually acts like a dick may plop down his blanket two feet away. You just ignore the little S.O.B, and they just ignore you. Whatever happens on your neighbor’s blanket stays on your neighbor’s blanket—unless it’s utterly scandalous. Then it’ll be all over town the next day without your help.
The overall share of Americans who express consistently conservative or consistently liberal opinions has doubled over the past two decades, from 10% to 21%. And ideological thinking is now much more closely aligned with partisanship than in the past. As a result, ideological overlap between the two parties has diminished: Today, 92% of Republicans are to the right of the median Democrat, and 94% of Democrats are to the left of the median Republican.
This translates into a growing number of Republicans and Democrats who are on completely opposite sides of the ideological spectrum, making it harder to find common ground in policy debates. The share of Democrats who hold consistently liberal positions has quadrupled over the course of the last 20 years, growing from just 5% in 1994 to 13% in 2004 to 23% today. And more Republicans are consistently conservative than in the past (20% today, up from 6% in 2004 and 13% in 1994), even as the country as a whole has shifted slightly to the left.
But during the War of Independence the political ancestors of today’s Republicans (the Red side) abandoned the colonies to side with Great Britain. About 40,000 went to the territory that is now Canada and 10,000 followed right-wing hero Benedict Arnold to England. They are hypocritical to celebrate Independence Day, July 4.
White nationationalists, neo-nazis, and others of that inbred ilk get “white fireworks.” (Don’t tell them that fireworks originated in Asia or that the stuff they want to set off was made in Mexico.)

Hard to celebrate INDEPENDENCE DAY when our country has been taken over by a hostile foreign adversary.
July 4 — 1776: Declare independence from England / King George III.
July 4 — 2018: Declare independence from Russia / Czar Putin.

American destruction of South America has been going on for a long time.
The US military backed United Fruit, people threw things at Vice President’s Nixon’s car.
Jerk Trump went to far and got caught being fascist.
Resist the Republican destruction of American and human values.

What kind of fireworks do people who leave the Republican party in disgust at Trump (for example, George Will) watch?

Off the topic of this cartoon, but “I Was Fired for Criticizing Trump” is Rob Rogers’ autobiographical comic, posted today at The Nib:
