Sold hamburgers as a fund raiser. Always made sure a sacrificial patty was on the grill and it did increase traffic.

Check the news from California. No joy there. Prayers for all home owners and firefighters who face those blazes. Get home safe.

Same for Supermarkets. In the U.K., it’s called ‘The Waitrose effect’. https://www.independent.co.uk/property/house-prices-latest-waitrose-effect-sainsburys-marks-and-spencer-uk-property-a7760926.html

When I was young, I lived in a small unincorporated village. We were of course quite familiar with the smell of “fresh country air” from the various farms surrounding the town. But nothing, absolutely nothing, prepared us for the veal barn erected in the center of town. A veal calf among other things lives a life of pretty much constant diarrhea due to a mostly liquid diet. On those warm muggy summer nights (which, in Ohio is pretty much any one that isn’t actively storming), the smell was so thick you could nearly taste it. Fortunately, after a few years of this, one of the larger business owners in town made them an offer too good to refuse and turned the former veal barn into overflow storage for the livestock auction. Back to normal levels of country odors, thank god.

Realtors will actually tell you to bake an apple pie or cookies right before they come over to show your house to someone. Luscious aromas open up people’s pockets.

Try “grilling while black” in certain areas. You could very well end up facing the cops! There’s the infamous Oakland incident, and there’s another video that shows the police were called because the aroma from a black person’s barbeque drifted into a white neighbor’s yard (sad but true story!).

One grandfather was a butcher, the other a hunter and fisherman (skinned my first squirrel at about 9), so blood and guts don’t bother me much. Dad retired from the Air Force and we moved back to the family farm. Depending on the wind you got the smell from the cattle confinement or the hog farm. And I worked cleaning up at both of them in High School. I have no problem slapping fresh meat on the grill till it’s just about med/rare.
