    I had a habit of saying “how you doing”? My wife’s grandfather would have for an hour telling about how poorly he felt.

    It’s not clear what terrifies pluggers more: emotional intimacy or any reminder of their own mortality.

    I live in a 55+ neighborhood. I get those anatomy lessons almost daily. I’ve learned so much that I really didn’t want to know.

    I almost never discuss my physical ailments when greeting other survivors of the 20th century. It’s really none of their business. I wish they felt the same way.
